You know that these are MY geckos, right?
With the heat in the dishes trending wimpward, we decided to have a contest this year for the hottest dishes, one containing animal bits, and the other vegetarian. Only people who had brought HOT dishes could compete. Everyone got to vote with little stickers that they got with their nametags, and anyone could see the progress as voting progressed. This was an election with total transparency (as long as candidates registered properly—which turned out to be a challenge), but low voter turnout. Besides hot dishes, it appears that a key to winning was being named Mark.

We had lots of wonderful food this year (as always), and even a few dishes that earned their heat. But a hint to those of you who wonder, "Should I tone it down a little for the crowd?" The answer for the future is, NO, TONE IT UP. This is, after all, a hotluck. For some inspiration, check out some recipes.

Finally, we must thank our wonderful guests for their food and presence; without you we'd just be upsetting the cats.
